EdgeEver

EdgeEver Privacy Policy

Effective: July 18, 2026

Scope

This policy applies to the EdgeEver iOS and Android mobile apps and EdgeEver Web Clipper. EdgeEver is an open-source, self-hosted notes application. Users choose and operate the EdgeEver instance they connect to.

Data handled

  • The mobile app processes the EdgeEver instance URL, username, and password that the user provides to sign in. The resulting session credential is stored in secure device storage.
  • Notebooks, notes, tags, and attachments are transferred between the device and the user's self-hosted instance. The mobile app keeps the necessary local SQLite mirror, drafts, sync queue, and preferences to provide fast access and offline editing.
  • The Web Clipper processes the current page title, URL, selected content, or extracted article body only when the user chooses to save it. Its instance URL, API token, and default notebook settings are kept in Chrome local extension storage.

Use and transmission

The mobile app and Web Clipper connect directly to the EdgeEver instance selected by the user. The project maintainers operate no relay or centralized service that receives or stores users' notes, credentials, or clipped content.

The products contain no advertising, analytics, tracking, or telemetry. Data is not sold or shared with advertising platforms, data brokers, or other third parties.

Permissions and file access

  • Network access: signs in to and synchronizes with the EdgeEver instance selected by the user.
  • File access: uses the system file picker only when the user chooses to import, export, or upload an attachment.
  • activeTab: accesses the current tab only after the user invokes the extension to save it.
  • scripting: runs the content extraction script in the current page.
  • storage: stores the instance URL, API token, and default notebook settings locally.
  • Optional host permissions: grants network access only to the EdgeEver instance configured by the user.

Security and retention

Users should use an HTTPS EdgeEver instance and protect their account and API token. Local app data remains until the user signs out, clears app data, or uninstalls the app. Extension settings remain until the user changes them, clears extension data, or uninstalls the extension. Cloud notes and attachments are retained by the user's own instance and can be edited or deleted there.

Chrome Web Store Limited Use

Information received from Chrome APIs is used only to provide the user-facing web clipping feature described above. Its use complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
